Just look at this picture…
Haha, Lance is such a badass. Absolutely ice cold. He didn’t flinch at all, just coolly walked in-between both DeMar DeRozan and PJ Tucker, then walked away. And he didn’t say a word.
For those wondering about the context of the picture, you can check out the play here.
Basically there is an unwritten rule in the NBA where it’s bad sportsmanship to score the ball when the game is already decided, especially if the time left on the game clock is less than the time on the shot clock.
Usually players just hold the ball and let the time run out. In this case, Lance scored the ball, and some of the Raptors took exception. In the video, Cory Joseph (the guy inbounding the ball after Lance lays it in) even looks like he was throwing the ball to try and hit Lance. Then PJ and DeMar get all up in Lance’s face and talk some shit to him.
It’s funny because just a few days ago, Javale McGee shot a three at the end of regulation when the Warriors played the Wizards, and Brandon Jennings took exception to the shot for similar reasons. He ended up shoving McGee while he was in the air. The circumstances were slightly different in that the game clock was longer than the shot clock, so if McGee held onto the ball, the Warriors would have gotten a turnover and Washington would instead have the final possession.
Anyway, this thing was on the front page of r/NBA (the NBA sub-Reddit) for the past couple of days and I thought it was kind of interesting.
I’m in the camp that believes it’s not a big deal. The reason people get upset is because they’re getting blown out and they’re probably frustrated or angry. Instead, they should be mad at themselves for being in that position.
Also, I think Lance sometimes just does stupid things without thinking. He did blow in LeBron’s ear before… But in this case, he was probably just excited to be back in Indiana and playing again. Either way, I think this thing is overblown, but it’s pretty funny how riled up some of the players get because of this silly unwritten rule.
By the way, I realize that my blog is supposed to be somewhat related to China. But I love browsing r/NBA and I love watching the NBA. Just a heads up that I’ll probably occasionally throw in the random NBA post here and there.
